ABOUT US

The Food Impostor was born out of an unexpected creative spark during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, when May Smith, a seasoned aviation professional, found herself with time on her hands after being grounded from her 14-year career. What started as a playful experiment with polymer clay, quickly blossomed into a captivating art form, with May’s hyper-realistic, whimsical food miniatures—tiny salami, ramen noodles, charcuterie boards, and croissants, cake and coffees (just to name a few)—capturing the attention and admiration of over 6,000 Instagram followers. Every single creation is meticulously hand-sculpted in our Brisbane studio, where we’re on a mission to recreate every food item on the planet, no matter how difficult or quirky.
Today, The Food Impostor is a dynamic e-commerce brand offering one-of-a-kind, food-inspired creations, from jewellery and brooches to functional pieces like bookmarks, keychains, and wax melts and so much more. In addition to our unique products, we offer immersive workshops and collaborate with chefs, cooks, food brands, and even lingerie and swimwear labels in the past, making our creations as diverse and exciting as our community. You can also watch how each piece comes to life through behind-the-scenes videos, showcasing the skill and passion behind every miniature masterpiece.
Plus, with every purchase, you’re making a real impact—$1 from every sale is donated to OzHarvest, Australia’s leading food rescue organisation. When you purchase a foodie art work from The Food Impostor, you treat yourself to something truly unique and support a movement that combines creativity, community, and giving back.
